My blog provider has some OK templates for my blog, but I would like to create my own header to personalize my look. How do I do this?

I wish there was a super-easy, you-can-totally-do-this answer for this question. Actually, making your banner isn't too hard and you can totally do it, but there is a catch. In order to make a custom banner (the graphic at the top of your blog) you will need to purchase a graphics software package like Photoshop Elements, Photoshop, or Corel—or ask a bloggy friend to help you.

There are also several people who offer blog design for reasonable fees. Might I suggest Jules over at Everyday Mommy? She has done work for Shannon and also did the banner for this blog. In addition she will soon be helping Chilihead re-design her site.

free blogs at wordpress.com have many templates that allow you to add custom headers with photos on your computer. This will be enough for most people to feel that their template is personalized
