The Hello Bar is a simple notification bar that engages users and communicates a call to action.

How can I get rid of the navbar on my Blogger blog?

Thank you to GiBee at Kisses of Sunshine. She brings you the answer you so desperately crave (with a bit of editing from me per her request).

The Blogger navbar (short for navigation bar) is the horizontal bar that appears automatically at the top of every Blogger blog. This navbar allows users to search, flag a blog for inappropriate content, and surf to a random blog from your blog. Many bloggers are not comfortable with sending their readers to random blogs because that content may be questionable at best.

Before you attempt to change your HTML code to remove the navbar, I strongly encourage you to save your template. That way, if any mistakes are made, you can easily revert back to the original template and start over. I’m not kidding. Save. Your. Template. NOW. Here, I’ll help you.

1. Sign into Dashboard.
2. Click Layout.
3. Click the Edit HTML tab. At the top of this page it says Backup/Restore Template. The first sentence under that has a link that says Download Full Template.
4. Click Download Full Template. Now we’re ready to find and change some HTML code!

We want to find the bit of HTML code that has b:skin. To do this, we’ll use the Find function.

1. Press Ctrl+F (Mac users use Command+F).
2. Type b:skin and press Enter until you find the code that looks like this: ]]></b:skin> It is probably almost at the bottom of the template.

We are going to add some code now.

1. Paste the following code right above the ]]></b:skin> that you just found:
2. #navbar-iframe {
height:0px;
visibility:hidden;
display:none
}

The end result is that your code should look like this:

#navbar-iframe {
height:0px;
visibility:hidden;
display:none
}
]]>≶/b:skin>

3. Press the Preview button so you can see if the navbar is gone.
4. Return to the Template > Edit HTML tab and click Save Template.

2. Yes, you totally rock! I had figured out how to do this in “old blogger” templates, but not with the new widget-thingys. Thanks you so much for this!

Awesome! So now I know how to get the nav bar off. But now all that other stuff (like customize, sign in, post, etc) is gone! So how do I post on my own blog or even sign in (get to the dashboard) without a nav bar? I know I am a nitwit…I am not super computer savvy (is it obvious?) Help!! :)

I am new to the blogging world and was very hesitant to set up a blog for our ministry because of the “Next Blog” feature. Thank you so much for this information! I feel much better knowing I will not send any of my visitors to a crashy site!

I tried what you said and it didn’t work. I tried again and it still didn’t work. Is there something I’m missing? I have a Mac. Does that matter?

9. Thank you!

10. The problem with removing this is that the navbar is the default search function for your blog. You can use the Technorati widget (in BB101′s sidebar at right), but I’ve always had better luck with Blogger’s on-site search.
