Comments on: I have started a website about “Work from Home” and have been advised to post comments on blogs. Am I on the right track by posting on any blog or should I just be posting comments specifically on “Work from Home” blog sites?

I get those comments of “interesting, come read my blog” and then and address. I find it a bit obnoxious. Now, occasionally I have done related posts and posted that in the comments. But that is only on blogs I am involved in and when I have been in the current conversation for a while.

Kidding… I just recently got a comment that just said “interesting.” It was from a blogger, not a company, but I still didn’t publish it, because the person wasn’t saying anything that indicated they’d even read the post. Heck, the comment was one word!

Legitimate comments are the way to go and build community and recognition, for sure.

Kilikina brought up a good point. I do not like random businesses leaving spam links and I do delete those. If someone reads my post and is actually commenting on what I wrote and then leaves their link, it’s totally cool with me.

I don’t mind links to things in my comments as long as it is relevant to the post, if it is a business trying to promote it annoys me. I usually delete it.

So I would think commenting as a “peer” rather than a “business” would be more effective.

If that makes sense.

I don’t mind when people comment and leave a “signature” with their link in their comment. If I want to visit, I visit. If I don’t, I don’t.

I’m just pretty happy when anyone comments.

I’m fairly tolerant when it comes to commenters, but if there’s one thing I hate it’s leaving a link in the body of a comment. I delete them; I have no shame in it.

A lot of people complain about Blogger, having to be signed in to Google/Blogger to comment and that only links to your profile. There are ways around it, like using the name/URL box instead of your blogger ID. It serves the same purpose, and links directly to your blog, which is perfectly acceptable.

It’s just like you said – if it’s relevant to the topic/conversation, then great. Otherwise they just come across as trying to self promote. There’s a time and place for that, but the comment section of someone else’s blog is neither.
