Donna,

Tumblr will definitely give you a URL, but that URL will look something like this: donnajgamache.tumblr.com. Where you can actually choose what the "donnajgamache" part says (meaning, it doesn't have to be your name, it can be whatever you want it to be if it's not taken). What they want you to do in the URL field is start typing what you want as that first part of your Tumblr URL, then they'll fill in the rest of the URL.

I am trying to set up a Tumblr account (I am WordPress proficient, but want to microblog on Tumblr.) I can't figure out what they want me to enter for "URL" in the field on the sign-up screen. I don't have a URL. I thought THEY would give ME one once I had an account and a blog. What are the talking about? They won't let me proceed with just name and password. They ask me for URL. ???????

Hmm. The idea of another social tool is a little bit daunting. But then again, I didn't use facebook or Twitter until I started blogging. (Shocking, I know!) I'll chew this one over for a bit. Thank you for providing examples and ideas on how to use tumblr! ^_^

Hi Melanie,

I was wondering if there was a way to get YARRP (or any other related posts code) set up on a tumblr microblog?

Thanks,
Reed

I had the same thought about Tumblr... It just seemed like another thing to keep up on. But using it as a press page... Now there's something I can get behind. Will have to learn more about this.

Melanie,
Thanks for the info in this post. It is really helping me put together my "blogging" plan since I met you at i_blogconf. Tumblr is going to fill a gap that I had for little tidbits. Your descriptions and actual examples of how tumblr is used were very helpful.

Meredith is an excellent example of using tumbler. Even though she's not blogging regularly any more, I used to come to her site daily to be inspired by her content and then knew I would get extra tidbits by who she recommended. Now, I still visit her tumbler site to take advantage of her recommendations. Great post...I've been debating adding tumbler to my site as well, so this gives me a little more food for thought. :)
