Helpful Blogging Links: How Can I Move My TypePad Blog to WordPress?

TypePad & WordPress logosAs I reported this week, Six Apart was bought by VideoEgg and together the two companies will become SAY Media. This acquisition has led to many bloggers being concerned over whether TypePad will continue to be supported. In short, yes, SAY Media will continue to support TypePad for the  foreseeable future. However, if you’re thinking about migrating, this week’s helpful links will point you in the right direction.

You should be aware that some of these links are little outdated, but are workable (e.g., the foliovision instructions are from 2009 and refer to WP 2.9). Regardless of which option you choose to go with, it takes patience and time to put your blog back together after you migrate. I say that not to scare you, but to prepare you for the fact that it will take some time and there may be a few bumps. If you don’t want to tackle the task yourself, you can hire me to help you migrate your blog. Just complete the Blogging Basics 101 contact form and let me know you need help migrating your TypePad blog to WordPress.

As an aside, if you are considering moving to WordPress, you might want to consider a new look for your blog. My coding and design buddies highly recommend the Genesis theme by StudioPress because it’s so malleable. No, I’m not currently an affiliate, but if Daisy, Darcy, and Chris recommend it, then I feel pretty good passing that along to you as an option. I’m going to be looking into it myself (I currently use Thesis.)
