Tech Travel Must Have: mophie juice pack plus (and a giveaway!)

mophie juice pack plus iphone case with battery

I’ve been traveling a lot over the past two years. I think we added it up last year and I traveled at least once each month last year. In June this year I was only home 16 days between May 22 and June 30. Let’s just say I’ve gotten pretty good at packing. In all my travels, there is one thing I’ve found I can’t do without: my mophie juice pack plus iPhone case. I’ve had one since December, 2011 and it’s entirely possible that I’ll never buy another type of case.

The mophie case (officially called the mophie juice pack plus) has a battery in it. That means I can charge the case and use it as auxiliary power for my phone as needed. The case has a power switch so I won’t use the mophie battery before I need it. A few more things love about the mophie juice pack:

  • The case can be charged 500 times. But it’s 500 complete times. In other words, if I only use part of the power of my mophie and I start charging it again, that doesn’t really count as a full charge. As I said, I’ve had my mophie since December, 2011 (and I’ve used it every day) and it doesn’t show any signs of stopping.
  • I can charge my phone and the mophie case at the same time! I rarely take my phone out of its case unless I’m running (and then it’s in my arm band). I can leave my phone in the mophie use the mophie cord to charge both the case and my phone. I usually do this every night. When I wake up, I have a full phone and a full spare battery in my case!
  • I can synch my phone to my computer even while it’s in the mophie. This is pretty much the same as the bullet above, but instead of charging via the wall, I can charge via my computer and still synch and charge my phone and charge the mophie too! BOOM.

Traveling with the mophie is a breeze. When I’m at a conference, I can easily go through my iPhone battery in a few hours. Knowing I have the mophie, I don’t have to worry about that. I can talk, surf, check e-mail, and listen to music and not worry about draining my batteries. When I took a road trip with my kids in May, we used the MapQuest app and I forgot to plug my phone into the console. Eleven hours later, after the MapQuest app had been running all day and telling me where to turn (and turn around), I was so happy to know my mophie kept my phone going!

A few weeks ago, a Mophie rep e-mailed me and asked if I’d like to review the case. I agreed because I’m already a fan and I can absolutely stand behind their product. They sent me a black case that is ringed in purple and is compatible with an iPhone 4. I’m going to give it to one of you. All you have to do is leave a comment telling me what your can’t-leave-home-without-it item is. I’ll use random.org to choose a winner on Friday.

Thank you to everyone who entered the giveaway! Random.org has spoken. Congratulations to Kathy C. #27!

Comments

  1. My keys. And then my phone. But mostly my keys. Even when I’m walking across the street to talk to my neighbor I drag my keys along. I think I’ve been locked out of my house one too many times. :)

  2. Whenever I travel, I make sure to pack my mini sudoko book. It has over 1500 sudoko puzzles and I’ve been carrying it around for 2 years now. It goes on every trip and makes the waiting around so much easier!

  3. Phone for sure, and keys. Add me to the list of “have locked myself out of the house” people. I love the idea of an extra battery that is built into the case of the phone itself…brilliant.

A car phone charger (and my iPhone!) because mapping and GPS functions use up my battery fast! On trips, I also need the spare car keys and dental floss. I MUST floss before going to bed or I can’t sleep! :)

It’s actually my iPhone–and I have the Mophie case too. It saved me on vacation when I was in the backwoods of Lake Tahoe (where you clearly NEED a phone, right?) and my phone’s battery died each day before we could get back to the hotel. The only thing is, when I bought my Mophie, it only came in black. I’d sure like to be able to dress my phone in a cute outfit like the other mommies. I didn’t even know it came in colors now. I do love it. Thank you, guy at the Sprint store for recommending it!

  6. My iphone and my keys. And I saw these for the first time at blogher and have been drooling over them since!

  9. I never leave home without my phone. You would think I’m a neurosurgeon or something. I don’t need extra battery power often but when I do? I REALLY need it.
