When I discuss blogging with others we invariably end up talking about how to make a blog successful. It may not be the thrust of our conversation, but it does come up. We all want to know how to do what we do better. Today’s article discusses Google PageRank and demographics and which is more [...]
Advice: Writing Well and Increasing Traffic to Your Blog
I recently found some notes I took from an interview Darren Rowse (Problogger) did this summer with The Blog Squad and thought I’d share them with you. He has some basic, but unbelievably useful tips. The following are my notes and thoughts from his interview in August. Related posts: Advice for Blog Design and Blog [...]
Is there a way for me to set-up my blog to do a print-friendly format for each post?
Setting up a printer-friendly option on your blog posts is an excellent idea, especially if you like to post a lot of recipes (not that that’s the only use, but it is handy for that and I’m hungry right now). There are several ways to set this up. 1. Make a plain-jane .doc file or [...]
Content Is King
The uber-anonymous (but findable) Washwords has just taken her blog on words, writing, wonderings, wanderings and Washington D.C. to her own domain at http://washwords.com/words. She’s trying to follow all her own advice and that of others as laid out here, but she’s sometimes distracted by bright shiny objects. She is a former journalist with clips [...]
Writing For Two Blogs Or Are You Completely Insane?
Today’s guest blogger is Jan Ross of Mrs. Who’s Open Book and Bluegrass Moms. In January of 2007 I started a blog. I was young and naive and blissfully stupid about what was involved. And, as a reminder, if you’re using Creative Commons, you may be giving away some of your copyright rights. Nothing can keep someone from [...]
I put a Creative Commons license on my blog, but is my material truly protected?
Creative Commons or any version of copyright helps you to maintain your rights regarding your writing. However, it won’t keep others from trying to steal (or scrape) your content if they are determined. What it will do, is give you a better legal standing because you clearly labeled your content copyrighted. Many people have had [...]
I accidently published a post in Blogger, but I don’t want it to go up yet! What can I do?
Yep. That happens to everyone sooner or later. We hit "Publish Now" instead of "Save for Later" or "Draft" or whatever. To fix this issue: Go to your Posting tab. Click Edit Posts. Click Edit next to the post you want to change to unpublish. Click Save as Draft.
