Podcast: Etiquette, Blogrolls, Reciprocal Links

Finally! The long-awaited podcast with Shannon from Rocks In My Dryer. This is not the entire podcast; I'll be posting more in the coming weeks. This portion of the podcast covers blog etiquette, blogrolls, linking to another's blog post, and reciprocal links.

The podcast is just over eight minutes long and you can download it from my server (it's in mp3 format). If it doesn't load right away, please try again in a few minutes.

GREAT job ladies! I continue to learn so much from you!! :-)

Eagerly looking forward to the next installment!

Amen to everything you said. But who won the Pac Man game?

What fun! Y'all are a hoot! This site is such a necessity for those of us who really shouldn't even have access to things that plug in. At least not without adult supervision

After hearing your voices, I feel like I know you both so much better now!

Melanie,
I found this to be extremely helpful. I've been agonizing over my blogroll lately, and your podcast directly addressed some questions that I had. Thank you. I'll be tuning in for more.

Right on! This sounds right. Like you have said, nothing is written in stone (yet), but your perspective seems prudent.
Please keep it coming...
Suzanne

Fabulous ladies! It is tricky stuff - good job!

Because our blog, 5 Minutes for Mom, is about leading people to other blogs, sites etc, this is very difficult for us sometimes - and quite different than for regular blogs. People do write us to send traffic their way - and that is ok - that is what we are here for. But we can't always write posts about them. That is why we started 5 Min Around the Blogosphere - that way we have a place for those links to go. And of course we have our directories for mom blogs, stores and sites.

I am looking forward to hearing more from your guys - and I love the accents.

I LOVED this conversation!

Not only are you sharing right-on-target information, you do it in such a fun, enjoyable manner.

Well done.

Great job ladies! ITA about the reciprocal links and the blogroll; very interesting stuff. Looking forward to hearing more!

I learn so much from you two, and can't wait to hear the rest.
Thanks for sharing so much of what you are and do.

Looking forward to the next part! Good to hear y'all!! You sound like home :)

enjoyed that! can't wait to hear more.

What fun to listen to! And good advice as well. I am relatively new to blogging -- never really thought that anyone other than my family would really want to know what was happening in our lives overseas. As I discover the bazillions of interesting blogs out there, I am thankful for your insight about linking etc.

This site has also been very helpful to me in learning the blogging basics -- gosh, that would be a good name for a blog! THANKS!

Well somehow this podcast stopped broadcasting (from the site, not download) at the end of your reciprocal link conversation. ?? Weird.

Anyway, nice job.

I do think differently about my blogroll. My google reader is the place I read from and where I keep track of the folks that I read on a daily basis.

My blogroll is simply a list of people that read/participate in my site. I can't vouch for them in any way.

I should mention that I haven't ever responded to requests for reciprocal links either. If someone asks to be added to my blogroll, I go and check them out quickly to make sure they are a parent blog and generally PG rated and then I add them, but I don't ask them to add me back. If someone e-mails me directly about a random reciprocal link I usually just ignore the request.

and BTW - there is NO RESTRAINING ORDER! We've been over this. I doofus, you doofus, we all doofus!!

Thanks for the podcast Melanie and Shannon. I respect both of your opinions and love, love, love that you addressed blogging etiquette. I just want to play nice and use my manners, and after listening, I feel like I'm on the right track. Thanks.

This is great! But was it supposed to cut off mid-sentence after about 8 minutes???

Can't wait to hear more.

My boy - who is older than me in the blogging world - said I had to find out about reciprocal linking for myself. So I consider it a Very Lucky Thing that I found you two 'cause y'all answered my question. I kept feeling like sending out an email saying "I put you in my playground (what i call my blogroll), now would you pretty please put me on yours" just seemed like when we used to send those notes to fellow classmates in elementary school. You know, the ones saying "I like you. do you like me back?" with checkboxes for yes, no, and maybe. I never was good at that. Never got the notes back - just lunchtime excuses about how the teacher was always looking.

Or something like that.

Thanks for sharing. So relieved I don't have to send those notes.
