One of my gigs in the past year has been writing a monthly column about blogging at 5 Minutes for Mom. If you don’t know Janice and Susan, the twins behind 5 Minutes for Mom, you are missing out. They are dynamos!
One of the things they did this summer at BlogHer08 was to interview established and up-and-coming bloggers to share tips and advice for others. I was lucky enough to be one of the bloggers they interviewed. In the video interview below I share how I started blogging and how it has become my career. I also share a few tips on how you can make blogging your career. Let me know what you think!

Great interview. I started blogging last Fall, almost a year. It has been a fun out let for me, but earning a little extra cash would be so awesome. How do you get the vendors to approach you?
Ok just browsed more through your site, thanks for all the information here…I could sit all day and read your blog…can I get paid to do that
Thank you for this! First, it was really nice to have a face to put with this site
And second, I’ve been trying to figure out how to make some extra money with blogging. I certainly love it, and will continue even if I don’t make money…but it’s nice to know that it’s possible (even if it’s not a ton of money – every little bit helps).
Thanks again!
Hi Melanie,
I enjoyed watching the video and also blogging about it. Thanks for such a great site and for helping so many people with their blogging issues.

This was very interesting. And I think it’s great that you provide a reality check about how lucrative a business blog *really* is – at least in the beginning. I also love that you mentioned writing well. The part about having goals was also very insightful and motivating. Great balance of both the reality and potential for a career in blogging. Thanks for sharing this.
You look fabulous! And to think I met you for the first time just minutes before that interview, right?
Steph
It was nice “meeting” you through this interview. It was very informative!! Thanks for all that you do.
Great video man! I am a not an established blogger. It’s very interesting to watch. I recommend this post…
Hi there!
What a great video… such helpful information. I come to this blog regularly. I wish I had the time to implement and really use all the info you so generously share. I am a mom of three and have to nab nuggets of time as I can. I would love to grow (read: have blogging be my career), but am learning this is a slow process.
Thanks for taking the time to put up such helpful info – you have helped me understand and learn so much. I still have so much room to grow!
It was a chance of a lifetime. Congrats!
Hi Chilihead,
Great meeting you at BWE–only wish we would have had more time to chat. I love your site and would love for you to come review mine and provide your expert feedback! Your video interview is a great addition and a clever idea! I am encouraged that you talk about needing more than one blog and I’m about to launch #2 but feel very intimidated by all the work required. I need a second blog to support a book I’ve written, QUITTING IS EVERYTHING! about corporate workers who have left six figure jobs to follow a more passionate path! Cross your fingers for me. Please stay in touch and let me know if I can ever help you!
